Level or Lift Your Truck? | Trick Trucks Millsboro

Want to personalize your truck? Start by deciding what kind of driving you want to do.

You’ve just bought a new truck and you’re eager to make it special. But you’re not sure whether you want to lift your truck or whether leveling will do.

Both lifting and leveling will raise the truck body to allow larger tires. But, leveling only raises the front end a couple of inches to bring it in line with the higher rear end. Lifting, on the other hand, raises the entire vehicle higher – anywhere from 2 inches to 10-inches if you buy a kit. It can go even higher, if you truly want to customize your truck and its appearance, according to trucktrend.com. Lifting also involves more extensive work on the truck because other components have to be changed or altered to accommodate the larger tires and raised frame.

How do you decide whether to level or to lift?

Well, one way to start is to figure out how you want to use your truck. Do you want to use it to tow a boat or a horse trailer? Do you want a front winch? Do you want to drive it on the beach? Do you want to drive it off road and, if so, how far off road?

If you want to install a front winch, for example, you likely want to level your truck, trucktrend.com says. The leveling raises the front end, allowing for larger tires and preventing the sag that can happen from the weight of the winch or other equipment.

” While most pickups have plenty of clearance in the rear, up front larger tires can hit the inside of the fender or bumper when turning, and a slight increase in height is just what the doctor ordered for this type of issue,” trucktrend.com says. “Also, if a heavy weight like a plow or winch is added to the front of the truck, the suspension may sag, giving a ride height that is even lower than stock. In this case, a leveling kit can be used to bring the front end back up to its proper height.”

If you’re interested in installing really large tires, then a lift kit is the way to go. A lift kit may also be the way to go if off-roading is your goal.

“Many newer trucks are built with low-to-the-ground features that make them more car-like. Low bumpers, exhaust, and running boards can all be damaged by rocks and debris-and even just smashed up on rough roads,” according to trucktrend.com. “A lift kit keeps all these mechanical and body parts from being mangled when the road gets rough. Lift kits are also very useful when going off-road. Whether it’s through rocks, mud, or in deep snow, having larger tires, more suspension travel, and better ground clearance are very large pros for lifting a truck.”
