Larger Tires or Not? | Trick Trucks Millsboro

Sure, larger tires look cool and they can be a first step to customizing your ride. But should you get them?

You’re toying with the idea of customizing your truck. But you’re hesitating to simply go out and totally transform your truck. You’re thinking of doing it one step at a time. Perhaps bigger tires and a lift kit that stop short of total customization.

Bigger tires do look cool. And, as dieseltechmag.com says, they have some big advantages. The most obvious is giving your truck greater ground clearance, which is a good thing if you go off road a lot. The higher clearance will help prevent your truck from getting dinged up when going over rough terrain. Additionally, the larger tread gives your truck more grip as you go over rocks and into mud or other soft surfaces. That can translate to better traction on pavement so it makes your drive to the Nanticoke Indian Museum and other local places even easier.

Many people who switch to larger tires also find towing is easier because the tires can carry the weight of the towed vehicle without causing your truck to squat down in the back.

Dieseltechmag.com says that there are also potential disadvantages. One is the cost of a lift kit or new rims that will have to be installed to accommodate the larger tire. Another is a possible loss in fuel economy because of the “increased rolling resistance” of the larger tire.

“The handling of your truck may also change, since larger tires and a lift kit will change the center of gravity of your truck,” according to dieseltechmag.com. “Also, be sure to check with the truck manufacturer about your warranty policy. … Some manufacturers won’t warranty a truck that has suspension modifications.”

If you decide larger tires are the way to go, dieseltechmag.com says don’t forget to “recalibrate both the truck’s odometer and the Tire Pressure Monitoring System so they can accurately reflect the vehicle’s speed and appropriately monitor the inflation pressure of the new tires.”

You won’t have to worry about remembering such things if you go to a one-stop shop like Trick Trucks in Millsboro to have your larger tires and lift kit installed.
